Representatives from the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) attended the Sports in Parliament reception held at the House of Commons in London, England earlier this week (3 March).
Sponsored by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the event saw WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson and WPBSA Sport Development Manager James Chambers meet with Stephanie Peacock MP, Minister for Sport, Tourism, Civil Society and Youth. Sir Gavin Williamson MP, Rachel Taylor MP, Dame Caroline Dinenage MP (chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee) and with Catherine McKinnell MP.
Important matters were raised including the significant role of snooker clubs within their local communities and the current threat to them from increased business rates and planning permitted development rights for flats.
The therapeutic value of snooker was also highlighted, as documented by Sport for Confidence in partnership with the WPBSA in recent years.
Jason Ferguson, WPBSA Chairman said: “I was delighted to attend this year’s Sports in Parliament reception and to be able to explain the key role that snooker has within UK communities.
