Siyavosh Mozayani defeated Ali Alobaidli 4-2 to win the third Q Tour Middle East event of the season at the Emirates Billiard Sports Federation in Dubai, UAE.

Mozayani, from Iran, became the third different player to win a Q Tour Middle East event this season after previous successes for Egypt’s Mostafa Dorgham and fellow Iranian Ali Gharahgozlou.

Sixty-four cueists from 15 nations contested the penultimate tournament of the series and Mozayani made a strong start – dropping just a single frame in his opening three matches as he overcame Ziyad Alqabbani (3-0), Omid Sanati (3-1) and Mohamed Hussein (4-0) to reach the quarter-finals.

Despite competing in a Q Tour event for the very first time, the Iranian cueist showed no signs of nerves as he then comfortably defeated Iraq’s Abdullah Falah Ghadhban 4-1 with help from the tournament high break of 118 in the opening frame.

Ali Jaleel, who had finished as runner-up in each of the first two events, raced into a 2-0 lead against Mozayani in the semi-finals.

The eventual champion rallied, however, to deny Jaleel a third successive final by winning four consecutive frames to set up a title match meeting with Qatar’s Alobaidli.

The 33-year-old had last beaten Turkish national champion Ismail Turker to reach the final stage in only his third ever Q Tour event.

It was all square after two frames of the final but, from there, Mozayani never looked back as he took three of the next four with a top break of 60 to secure his maiden Q Tour crown.

The fourth and final event of the Q Tour Middle East series takes place at the Emirates Billiard Sports Federation in Dubai, UAE on 24-27 January. Follow via WPBSA SnookerScores.
