This month’s BetVictor Scottish Open achieved outstanding viewing figures on UK Eurosport, with the average audience for the event up 64% compared to 2022.
The tournament in Edinburgh was won by Gary Wilson for the second year in a row as he beat Noppon Saengkham 9-5 in the final. The peak audience for the final was up 28% compared to last year.
Fans also welcomed the chance to watch the event on DMAX, with the average audience across the event up 19% when compared with figures on QUEST from 2022.
The overall cumulative audience across the event on UK Eurosport and DMAX jumped by 76% when compared to last year’s numbers on UK Eurosport and QUEST.
The tournament also proved a great success on WST’s digital platforms, with over 16 million people reached during the seven days. WST’s Facebook page alone reached 12.8 million, an increase of 70% compared to last year.
And there was an increase in the live audience at the Meadowbank Centre in Scotland’s capital, notably on the final day when 1,000 fans packed the arena, despite having seen home favourite John Higgins exit at the semi-final stage.
WST’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Tom Rowell said: “These tremendous figures continue the trend we have seen for every tournament so far this season, with increased audiences on linear, digital and live crowds. Snooker has fantastic momentum going into 2024 and we look forward to building on our growing popularity as we continue to attract new fans.”
